Has anyone had their band done at Albany Med in NY. It seems everyone went to Mexico. I am being banded 3/14/07. Only one other person in my support group has had it done, the rest are bypassers. Would like to know how it went for anyone else??? Getting a bit nervous as it gets closer. :)

I am born and breed in NY. Got my band 2 years ago, PortJefferson, Long Island. I never even considered mexico. Don't know why, just didn't. Haven't had any problems other than the ones I created myself. See my post under complications. If you take care of the band, it will work for you. I have confidence in our medical care and NY rules. Good luck.

I'm also on Long Island and have not had any complications. There are quite a few New Yorkers on the board. Albany Medical is an excellent center so you're in great hands.

Just banded on Valentine's Day, in NY (not as far upstate as you are). It went fine...although I am starting to feel hungry...the Crystal Light isn't cutting it today.

Hi, nice to see someone else from the area. I have my appointment with Dr. Singh on Thursday 2/22 to hopefully get a surgery date! They have a great band support group there too, I just found out about it and attended my first one. They were all wonderful there

Hey Xray chic, I am in NY also, but over near Buffalo. There are a couple surgeons here that do the procedure but as I work (indirectly) with one of them (as an xray tech!!!) I am not sure how I feel about having him do my procedure. What are your thoughts on that?

Hi Hairydo, I think if it was an indirect relationship I would go for it. They don't usually prep you for surgery the OR techs do. I think it depends on your opinion of them as a professional. I am an x-ray tech too glad to meet a fellow technician.

Just popping in here too :)

As you know I'm being banded by Dr. Singh on 3/21

How long are you going to be in the area after surgery?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
