What should I pack for the hospital? SURGERY THIS WEEK!@#$%^&*!

Recommended Posts

I am starting to freak out... Surgery is This Thursday, April 25th... I am definitely scared, nervous, but also excited to start this journey..

So my question is what should I pack?

I already have the following set aside, what am I missing?

comfy Pj's

slippers

socks

comfy panties,

toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, Shampoo, etc.)

chap stick

my nook tablet

I know I am missing stuff...from your experience, what else is needed?

Thanx

Valerie

Phone and charger maybe. I know some people bring gas.x strips. I wasn't allowed to use them though:(. I don't think I used half the stuff I brought. I was too drugged lol. Best wishes:)

Oh wait just remembered. I brought two of my own fluffy pillows with colored pillow cases on them so they wouldn't be mistaken for hospital pillows during clean up. I was soooo glad I did. I used them constantly to make myself more comfortable. Usually one under my head and one at my side. I can't stand flat hospital pancake pillows!

Pads/tampons. Many women get it right after surgery even if its not your normal time.

My hospital suggested a pillow from home :-) it also helps for the ride home if your still sore to grab on to :-D first thing my mom did was slam on her breaks 0_o

Phone charger and the toiletries... Got it.

I wore maxi dresses in the hospital. They were easy to put on and I was walking at all hours down the hall. I took my laptop but never used it. Got the Chapstick... Good :-) crazy thing... Of you have long hair and use hair ties make sure they don't have the metal in them. And... Congratulations!!! :-)

How hard was the beginning for you guys? (the liquid/mushy/soft stages)

I think i'm ready, have plenty of Protein drinks, powders. Have my liquid Vitamin, chewable Calcium, I stocked up on cream Soups, yogurts, broth, crystal light,

My head is all over the place! I hope I didn't forget anything important!!!!

The beginning was pretty rough for me... But every day does get better :-D I had zero interest in broths or shakes or even Water. But no matter what I made sure I was drinking water. It had to be ice cold bottle water. I had a picky pouch :-) your taste might change after surgery. A shake you like now might not be able to stand after surgery. Take small sips.

I am post-op 4/17

I spend 2 full days, 2 nights.

This is my list:

Toothbrush

phone/charger

Back scratcher

slippers

underwear

chapstick (used a lot) though they had stuff there

pillow

hand cream for my legs (they also had this there)

deoderant

brush

tampons (I got my period on the day I came home BTW)

2 magazines

The comfy clothes I wore there, I wore home.

I was in hospital gowns the entire time with the hospital socks. I brought my own PJs and never wore them.

Remember that you have an IV in the entire time so you cannot freely put shirts on.

I did not want to overpack.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
