Newbie getting readyfor surgery. How did you feel?

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Jennifer from Cali. I have gotten all the stuff done except a few lbs. I have already lost over 100 lbs but still over 150 lbs overweight. I have had two surgeries and had a lot of pain due to low pain tolerance. I have been going through times I'm super excited and next moment I'm scared and overwhelmed. I don't know many who have done this and only tell the supportive family members. My husband is really supportive thankfully. I would love to hear experience.

I have a high tolerance for pain but this hurt me. I was IN LOVE with my morphine button and just now started wearing jeans again 2 days ago. Mine was 4/1.

You'll be fine. Cough up everything you can and poot everything out! Gas was my worst thing. Mine just wasn't passing so I had to have a few things like a suppository. VIOLATED!

:) I did it myself though, so that should tell you it's not that bad.

Take chapstick, wetwipes, hand sanitizer, and real clothes and shoes. :)

I didn't know what to expect surgery wise going in. The anesthesia was so painful for me as it wore off. Definitely worse than the surgery pain. I've also always been a private person but I found myself letting complete strangers and my mother see more than what they probably bargained for lol. I did have some complications. When I would stand up, one of my incisions would bleed a lot. I had two blood transfusions and ended up back in the hospital the day after I was released. I'm pretty sore now (surgery was 4/15) but I don't regret it at all!!! The pain and discomfort is immediately relieved with pain meds. It's only been 6 days and I'm down 18 pounds and definitely looking forward to shedding a lot more.

Best decision I've ever made!

Good luck to you!!!!????

Ty I'm thinking I'm going to like the morphine button too because I'm a huge baby.

I try and prop my head up, which makes it a lot easier to get out if bed. Also I've noticed that if I'm planning to sleep for long periods of time, I force myself to walk around every few hours or else my stomach starts to cramp up. Walking helps a lot!

I had never had major surgery. Only wisdom teeth removed. I say I have a pretty high pain tolerance lol as long as it don't last toooo long

:-D I woke up from surgery and first thing out my mouth was... Pain. The gave me the morphine button and before they could completely explain I hit it :-) I had my surgery at 2 and by the time I woke up again around 11 at night I was up and walking. I had a great team who was great at pain management.... I had a laperscopic surgery and had a stubborn muscle around my largest incision so I was a little extra sore and it developed in to a slight infection so the soreness lasted a little longer.... But I'd do it ALL again in a heartbeat :-D my highest weight I was 360lbs. Day of surgery I was 336 and a week ago I was 220 lbs. I'm coming up to a year out :-D this surgery helped me live again. I was alive but for a few years I was not LIVING. I think usually the first month or two can be a little rough but once you start feeling better you'll feel great :-)

This helped too :-D

I have to thank you for being so honest because it made me feel a lot better about the nervousness I'm experiencing. Congrats on your weight loss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
