Hello~ I am new to this site, have not had surgery yet but will be done with my six months soon. I am 50/50 between VSG & RNY. I have been on the VSGTALK site so I decided to switch over & see the other side/ option. Getting excited & nervous, almost time to make the big decision & hope everything goes smooth with the insurance company. Looking at June or July . Any helpful hints are welcomed.

Hello, I'm dealing with the same thing. At first I was thinking of the sleeve, do to the fact that I didn't want anything re routed, and I also didn't want to lose that much weigh that fast to where I have a lot of loose skin. But now I'm not sure the RNY has way more success stories. When the time comes I think I will make the right decision what ever WLS I decided to go with.

You will know what to do in the end. Lots of people change there minds the day of surgery. I'm sure what ever you decided to do will be the right choice. Take care.

My new journey 2013

I chose the RNY at my surgeons suggestion. My metabolism is shot and I need the metabolic reset with malabsorbtion. Also: I have Gerd, chances of gerd are high with the sleeve. Sleeve doesn't work with everyone and we have some on the board that are a VSG to RNY revision. I liked that the RNY is the gold standard and that it has a lot of hard facts behind it while the VSG is new and has little long-term research and facts behind it. I'm a previous smoker. If I ever do get stomach cancer, I didn't like the thought of not having any stomach to play with since you lose all your excess with the sleeve. Also, I would never do it or I hope to never do it, but the RNY IS reversible. All the parts are still there. It's risky, buy if you're having enough complications, they can put it all back. It will never be "normal" but it could be an improvement. Permanently removing 80-90% of my stomach seemed just too extreme.

Said the girl that has a small pouch and rerouted intestines. lol

I was also on the fence between the two surgeries. However, I'm going with the RNY because the GERD will be better (quick I have a great deal of pre surgery) and my type 2 diabetes has a higher success rate to be cured.

I mean I have a great deal if GERD now, so I don't want it worse after.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
