My name is Jake and I had my surgery March 7, 2013. I have no issues so far. Everything I have tried to eat I have kept down. I am nervous about fluids especially when summer hits. I guess it scares me because I know my stomach holds 2oz. And I sip on Water, Gatorade, etc. all day and feel like I don't take in enough fluids. I work outside and when summer hits and it gets 90-100 degrees out how am I going to get enough fluids in my body. Any advice?

By That time you will be able to take more fluids in. Its tough at first. Sip. Sip. Sip. Chew. Chew. Chew. Its our mantra at first.

Hi Jake! My understanding is that over the next 6 months, your stomach will grow in size until it can hold about 8oz at a time. So you will be able to get more fluids in faster as time goes on. I'm still Pre-op, so no first-hand experience. Maybe one of the December group will chime in. :)

Yes you will be able to handle more, 8 oz is what my doc said too

SD: 10/10/12, Converted from Lapband to RNY, HW (before band) 263, HW (RNY) 230, Preop 219, after surgery 223, CURRENT... 185 Yeah!!!!

At first it took me like 30 min to sip 1 oz, right after surgery!!! Now I'm almost 2 weeks post op and I can sip 1oz in 10 min which is right on target with what my surgeon and nut said. As time progresses you will be able to drink more faster and also hold more at a time. By a year they told me I will be able to hold 1/2 to 1 cup per meal, depending on the person.

For some strange reason I never had a problem getting my minimum required 64 oz. of Water daily. I would fill (4) 16.90 oz of water with my crystal light each day, I would sip, sip, sip, sip all day and night. By the time I went to bed I had to have all of them finished. I am a year out and still cant chug water or any Fluid but I can take bigger sips now. Just sip all day long.. you will get your fluids in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
