Crying over yesterdays diapers so to speak

I have, been a little ddepressed because I found bags and bags of plus size clothes in my garage. Of course these things are huge on me. I am donating them and never going to see them again. Thee are just some gorgeous things there and momentos from places I have gone and concerts, etc . It makes me sad. I know I will make new memories but moving on from those is hard. Feels like im throwing myself away in the process.

I threw away a lot, but those things that have special memories I held on to. I will not throw away any of my Rod Stewart concert shirts. I may not be able to wear them they are my favorite. I have seen some people take old hurts like that and make quilts and I have thought of doing that.

As for the items that are nice looking - you can replace those with nice clothes in a smaller size!!

Part of it too is in the past we failed and kept the clothes so we still had stuff to fit into. Say goodbye with a joyful heart knowing you are never going back and move on making new memories as the new healthier you

I know it's really tough, isn't it? Personally, I put off getting rid of some of the stuff for as long as possible. It's so strange, because shouldn't we be happy to get rid of the big clothes?! But there are so many memories... Honestly, some of my old really big t-shirts I did hang on to and wear them to bed. I really like the idea that someone else gave about making some T-shirts into something. If you're not crafty, I think there is a place you can send them and they'll make them into a blanket for you. I can't remember the name though (I saw it online though I think.)

How funny, I was just going through this today!! I didn't cry, but I find myself holding on to clothes I know I won't wear again because "Oh I might want to wear that one more time." But I won't, especially the sweaters and cold-weather clothes, I'm nervous to get rid of them yet. I have SO many clothes too. I have a love of shopping, and my dresser and closet are overflowing. I need to part with these. I tried to sell some to Clothes Mentor, but they didn't want them. So I guess I'll donate. I just hate to do it because some of the clothes are relatively new. Oh well, may they go on to make someone else happy...

Thanks for this thread. I have been delaying and delaying cleaning out my closet. In fact, I have been mad at times that none of my clothes fit. I have been telling people this and of course they think I am just crazy:) I have tried to explain to a couple that it is very very psychological. In many of these clothes I felt like I looked very nice in them, but really never got many compliments - NOW that I am a thinner size - it seems at every turn or with every encounter of someone I haven't seen in a while I generate a compliment. I'm the same person - who has always dressed nicely - but when you are 100+ lbs overweight you are something of a shadow - people don't see you - they see a weight - and the public perception of a "perfect" person is one who is not fat. I think the clothes are a tangible symbol of what we have been - and I was a happy person at that weight - just had a lot of health issues - and I am a happy person now - but I am recognized and treated differently at a smaller body size. I think that is why the clothes not fitting makes me kind of mad - I'm going to try to get over it and get all the pants that fall off out of the closet to make room for the new ones - I tried on something like 140 pair of pants and jeans to find what size fit me and that I liked!

I got rid of 5 HUGE hefty bags of plus sized clothing from very high end stores a few weeks back I gave them to a womens shelter - and it felt so right -- someone will re-purpose them - go on a job interview and get that awesome job - or feel better about herself - I’m only pre-op and I was starting the process of letting go of this plus sized me and working on the new me - I applaud all of you and your healing and healthy new lifestyle.

Thanks everyone! I feel a little better just getting that off,my chest. It seems silly, but those clothes symbolized comfort to me. Not knowing what size I will end up is scary, yet exciting. Goodbye old body and old clothes!

Well also remember shopping is so much more fun now. It is fun to walk past the limited women's department and on to the regular department. No more frumpy grandma clothes. I usually think to myself as I past the women's department - I never have to shop there again!

I have found it exciting to try on new sizes. Instead of trying on the small size and facing the fact that you can not breathe and need the bigger size. This is the opposite. Last week I tried on a size 8 and to my amazement it was too big. Hello size 6 it is nice to meet you!

I have also found that I really like bright colors now. I never did before and when I look in my closet now there are bright reds, pinks, blues, and yellows.

You could always have a bedspread or blanket made from your success ;)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
