My fist post but have been reading this and many other forums for three months.

Short Bio:

My name is Rick I live in a rural area north of Van Buren Arkansas.

I have been yo-yo dieting for years and can’t do it anymore. Started this year out at 310 or so; I avoided the scales.< /p>

I attended a seminar this January and decided to follow up with my first appointment.

So far I have been through two of the three required doctor/dietician meetings (lost 15 pounds since first appointment), had the psychologist appointment already (passed), had chest x-rays, had EKG (results require a cardiologist follow-up? Yet to do), still have the EGD to do and one more Dr./dietician visit and insurance to give final blessing.

It looks like I am about 60 to 90 days out. I may be what is termed as a light weight for the RNY procedure but I have many comorbidities that are driving my decision for weight loss surgery.

Any bits of wisdom you care to share will be appreciated. I will have a few questions as I proceed through this process and may have some experiences to share post-op.

I will continue to lurk and learn for now.

Thanks,

Rick

Shawneey41,

Dr. Roller will be doing my surgery also. They are about 45 to 50 minute drive north of me.

Sounds like you are three or four weeks ahead of me on your journey.

Good luck and keep me posted in your progress.

Rick

Hey Rick, I'm new also. Russellville, AR. Dr. Baker in Little Rock is doing mine. April 1st. I'm scared and we don't have any support groups. Yay.

My husband is from Russellville. I lived there for several years. I really miss it, and I hope to move back there once my husband is done with school. I hope your surgery and recovery go well. I am just getting started with my journey.

Don't be scared, Dr Baker did my surgery last July and he did a fantastic job. I've had success and still having success.

I'm the ultimate hard patient (slipped band, emergency removal, eventual RNY). Baker is EXTREMELY conservative and drives me crazy sometimes but he's a fabulous bariatric surgeon. Wouldn't trust anyone else.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
