I am 9 days post band to RNY. I am afraid of dumping and trying to understand what makes it happen. So is is just regular sugar? Can fruit sugars cause it? Am I to go banana and orangeless forevermore? And being type 1 diabetic what can I use to treat lows?

You can dump on any sugar or none of them. I know I am pretty OK with fruits and white sugar (no that I eat that much of either) but even a little bit if honey and bam! It is a lot of trial and errors. Just take everything slow and in small amounts according to your diet/stages plan.

You will be able to slowly add fruits back into your diet but make sure you speak with you Nutritionist about when and how much esp since you are diabetic. I would call your dr. about what to do about "lows".

Not much more to add to what was already said, but pretty much everyone is different to what they can tolerate. I can have fruits, splenda, even sugar free pie(very rare once a month or so) and no problems at all. Only caused dumping once and that was enough. I have to stay under 20grams in a sitting, then wait several hours.

I no for me I had to reintroduce myself to a lot if things. Sometimes in the beginning your body may reject it, but them try it again a few weeks later. In the beginning I didn't eat much of nothing because everything gave me problems. I still can't have bread/toast because it won't stay down, but I can eat a tortilla wrap... I have lived off strawberries and watermelon especially for Breakfast or a late night eat. Ivey thirsty a lot so sometimes I can't wait the 30 minutes so I eat some watermelon to take away the thirsty ness or eat a cold orange... But can't drink orange juice lol... U just have to play around with things to see how it makes u feel.... Good luck

Fruits do not cause dumping for me. However, I have chosen never to drink fruit juice again.

I dumped off a banana and spicy shrimp before I never touched them again. I basically try to stay under 20grams of sugar

I have dumped on foods that contain fructose (not high-fructose-corn-syrup variation, but true fructose, the sugar that is naturally found in fruit) even when I consume very, very small amounts. I can tolerate 1/2 of a banana in my Protein Shake, but my nut said that since I was sensitive to the fructose, not to try it on its own. Your nut should be able to give you hard and fast rules to live by initially and then you can start trying to see what will work for you and what won't.

I can eat fruit no problem I enjoy it often. I dump on high carb items sometimes. I just try to keep my portions really small and healthy. I do have chocolate every now and again. Pb mms made me dump big time.

I make smoothies with fresh fruit / veggies or frozen fruit , Greek yogurt and milk and have never had any issues with dumping. It's been a great way to get these nutrients in. I have never dumped on anything but I don't try things like candy or Cookies that could make me do this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
