Umm, this might sound weird, but why do you need special soap pre-op? I never had to use either of the products you mentioned...

Hibaclens is the same stuff the surgeon uses to prep. Mine has you scrub the area being operated on with it the night before surgery and then again the morning of surgery. Cuts down on infection rates.

If you can't afford Hibiscus soap my doctor also said its fine to use Dial Antibacterial the night before and the morning prior to surgery to cut down on infection rates etc. I would continue to use the antibacterial soap until you have the area healed. I am 31 days post op tomorrow and I continue to use Dial Antibacterial Soap for the area until it is properly healed which can take a month or two ....good luck

I had no instructions like that. Told to shower the morning of my surgery and left with instructions that I could shower, but no baths.

It all depends on your doctor, def no bath and shower make sure your showerhead is on low because if you have staples or stitches it will hurt upon contact

I just had steri- strips and a bandaid on each incision.

I had staples for my c section, the Water pressure didn't hurt. It didn't even burn like I thought.

All protocol and instructions differ. Every surgeon has his/her preference of wound care. I have 6 different surgeries and 5 different surgeons, all different preps and post op instruction.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
