Carbonation anyone?

Recommended Posts

Ok so my doctor says no carbonated drinks! He said if you pop a "pepsi your looking for a pringle" haha. Well I no a couple of people that had the surgery and they are allowed carbonated drinks? I am dying to have one but I just just afraid??? Any advice? Did your doctor allow carbonated drinks?

I think every doc is different. Mine said ginger ale was ok and was given it post op in the hospital. He said that carbonation stretching your pouch is a myth and most docs tell you to stay away from soda is because of the sugar and empty calories and it can lead back to unhealthy dieting habits especially fast food.

Mine said it causes uncomfortable gas - and just told me it’s totally a myth that you can stretch out your new pouch.

Carbonation expands naturally and causes bloat...think about how it'd affect your pouch!

My surgeon said the exact opposite of what some of you are saying. He said that it will certainly stretch your pouch when consumed often, especially if you try to drink it the same way you do Water. I don't think that one sip would do it, but why open that can of worms when there are so many much healthier things to drink out there. It's been three years and two months since I last had a soda and I rarely miss it. Even when I do, I know it isn't something that I need or really even want.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
