Pouch stretch possibility?

Recommended Posts

Very silly question. I'm a week post-op. can we stretch our pouch with Clear Liquids or Protein? ?

I think it's meat and heavy stuff that does it

Ok! I hope so. I get so paranoid, it's crazy.

My nut told me studies have shown patients that consistently eat a cup or more over 1-2 years can permanently stretch their pouch. It can happen, but it takes a lot of work. Good to know!!

Very difficult. The pouch is like a funnel and liquids virtually go right thru it with out anytime at all. It is the heavy not as easily digested foods such as steak or more dense foods that will cause the stretching :-)

This is good to know! I'm still pre-op but every night this week I have nightmares about forgetting I had surgery and eating too much or stretching it out. So weird!

It can stretch trust me so be very careful!! I know mine stretched

On liquids? My dr said it is not likely to happen.

It's likely to stretch as it can eventually accommodate for more food, but not on liquids, right?

I had a post op appointment yesterday and i asked this very question. I drink way more than the 1 ounce per hour they were letting me have in the hospital so I was getting really nervous. I was told that as long as you are not gulping Water, you really can't damage your pouch with fluids. It made me feel much better to know that I wasn't messing up this early on!

FYI - This is not true if you are drinking carbonated beverages.

Not that I'm gonna do it, but curious what carbonation would feel like a couple days post-op.....anyone wanna confess? (I hardly EVER drink sodas, this is one of the few things I'm not worried about giving up post-op, just wondering!)

My doc says it will stretch your pouch. I haven't had soda since I had my Lapband surgery over 3 years ago, so I have no idea if that is true! I'm a week out from RNY and I'm not about to try a soda! :)

Before my surgery, I drank Diet Coke almost exclusively. About two weeks after surgery I took a sip because I knew I was SUPPOSED to love it. Well, all I tasted was the chemicals!! It was GROSS. I haven't touched the stuff since. I have no desire to. I am almost 4 months post op.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
