This is really hard

Recommended Posts

I'm gettin close to be able to scheduled a surgery date, the closer it gets the harder it gets to commit. I been following a diet and exercise program pre-surgery, and am feeling good and dropping weight. Can I do this without surgery? Wait, I have done this with out surgery a couple of times. Will the surgery change my ability to maintain a long term weight loss? I don't know, and cant get an answer from anyone I ask. That will be up to you they say, well its up to me now. Will the surgery make it easier? I hope so. I hear people can and do gain the weight back, will I? So confusing, so hard, what to do, what to do... Then there is RNY or sleeve another tough choice. I've got my work cut out for me for the next few weeks I hope I make the right decession. I don't really expect any answers just needed some where to vent.

Vent away! We feel your pain!!! We've all tried a zillion times, why should this be different. What if I really can do it without surgery? What if I have surgery and fail? Then what the heck do I do?!?!?! I've tried and failed a million times. I can do it short term, I cannot do it long term alone. I need help. I will not fail, I cannot fail....dear God please don't let me fail. Iam scared to death!!!! (Not of surgery, pain, etc...scared ill fail, again)

I like you all have tried fifty jillion ways to lose weight. I have lost a whole bunch of weight on "my own" and gained a bunch back and then some. The way you have to go into this decision is not that it is a magic cure that will make you all of a sudden skinny... It is a tool that has to be used correctly. If you follow you surgeons protocol you will lose weight and keep it off. It does change everything. It is something not to be done lightly. Believe me.. RNY is not for the weak!! There will be stalls... the weight doesnt just fall off... Yes it does come off... but when you can only eat 800 cal a day your mind tells you that you should lose a lot faster then you really do. Some of us cannot eat certain things... some never dump... everyone is different. That is why only YOU can decide if this is right for you. I tell everyone who asks now... if you need to drop a few pounds ... take care of it now before you become like I was and lose all sense of feeling full. Is it life changing... you bet it is!!! I am almost 1 month shy of my year anniversary. I have lost 168 lbs... with 7 pounds to go til my goal weight. Not only has my body gone thru a complete transformation but my mind has too. Like I said... this is not for the WEAK!!! If you choose to go thru with the surgery we will be here to support you. Good luck guys!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
