A bit TMI... Time of Month. :-(

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm all set for my surgery tomorrow at 1:00 PM, and lo and behold... Aunt Flow decides to visit me 3 days early!! So gross! Has anyone had any experience with this when they had their surgery? I just cannot imagine laying there without anything to... uh... "sop up the mess" so to speak. LOL! I don't know why I'm so mortified by this. I'm positive my doctor has seen anything and everything by now. :(

No worries, they'll give you a pad to lay on....they've seen it all :)

I started mine early and was on day 2 when I went in. the nurses were great about it. they let me wear the fabulous hospital panties and pad and a few hours after the surgery they let me get up and put my own back on. they have seen it all! and luckily most of the nurses are girls!!

Thank you! Hey, I don't care what kind of granny panties I have to wear, as long as they let me wear a pad. I've already packed extra underwear and pads.

When I had my lap band taken out in August I was on day 2 of my period, my hell day.....first words out of my mouth post-op 'Can i PLEASE have my panties?!?!?'

I started the night before! Most nurses reacted by saying it seems to happen all the time with no issues- I was grossed out because they catch urine to monitor output and it was not pretty but they can handle worst things! Nurses are sent from God! I too wore hospital panties initially and had them on what felt like the whole time.

During my surgery, I could not wear a pad or anything at all. Very weird. Luckily my periods are light.

So weird because I was worried about the same thing as my surgery is tomorrow too! The thought of not having any coverage is so petrifying even though I know that should be the least of my worries! Thanks for starting this thread and thanks to the ladies with all the advice!!

Yes, thank you all so much for the advice! I'm glad I could provide a brief moment of levity. Hey, at least I won't have to worry about cramps, since I'll be on good drugs. ;-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
