Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm going to be done on Feb 4th with my 6 month diet. After all the info has been sent in to the insurance (BCBS) how long on average was everyone's wait time! I'm getting impatient and anxious haha!

around two weeks or so. depends on if they come back asking for some clarification or something. but probably about two weeks. but don't freak out if it is a little longer, they do things in their TIME, which seems a lot different then ours, lol. Waiting is the hardest part. Wishing you the best

I'm extremely anxious lol, my bmi is at 40.7 with no comb. So I'm worried about getting denied, I was kinda hoping to have surgery in feb but I doubt it now lol

Why would you get denied because of your BMI? Is there a certain range you has to meet or something?

Best of luck to both of you as well (:

The request/file went in on 1/14 and I was approved 1/22. My BMI is < 40 with comorbids. It sat on the screening nurse's desk for 1 week before being sent to physician review. The BCBS physician approved it almost as soon as they got it. This is BCBS federal. ( FEPblue)

Noonie: that's pretty awesome...the turnaround time was basically a week. I'm goin to call the nurse the next day (Tuesday) to see make sure she has everything she needs to send. If I'm approved that quick I would be ecstatic!! Not to sound dumb, but what are comorbids? Would that be like if I was diagnosed with sleep apnea? And my BMI is around 45 I believe.

yes, apnea, diabetes, hypertension, etc. are comorbidities. You shouldn't need then with a BMI > 40.

I should be an easy approval then (hopefully). Do you have your surgery date?

I have Carefirst BCBS and have been waiting 2 weeks so far. Checked with the surgical group and they said it "could" take 45 days!! I'm going crazy waiting. I have almost all of my prerequisites done so hopefully i can get a quick surgery date. Has anyone else dealt with Carefirst?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
