Urgent Help Needed For Friend

Recommended Posts

I am posting this in several different forums hoping someone will have had some of the same problems.

I had my lap band surgery in june of 06. I had very few complications so am not much help to my friend. She is in desperate need of help and is too sick to get on line and ask everyone.

She had her lb surgery last wed (1-31). She had a different dr than I did. My dr put me on a liquid diet for two weeks pre surgery. Her's did not. She ate regular food until midnight before the surgery. She called me Sunday in tears. She was hurting real bad and throwing up. I told her to walk alot and get in a rocking chair and rock to help with the gas pains. She just called me and is no better. I just found out that she has been running a fever since the surgery. This morning she had over 101 fever. She says her stomach is hot to the touch but the rest of her body is not. She called her dr and was told this is normal for some people. I don't think this is normal. Did anyone else run a fever a week after the surgery? The dr made her an appointment for next monday but i think she need to see one now.

Her dr was Christian Thomas out of Houston. She had her surgery in Nachadoches. Did anyone else have him? Did you have any problems?

If anyone had these problems, or had any advise for her, let me know. I told her I would call her later and tell her what you said.

If the doc won't see her, she needs to go the ER. My doctor's instructions said to call if there was a fever. I did not run a fever at all, I was sore a bit longer than most people, however, I am now 3 weeks post op today and feel great.

I am still on mushy foods - I had to do Clear liquids 4 days before surgery, and Clear Liquids for 2 weeks after surgery.

Please keep us updated on your friend.

She needs to see a Dr, ASAP and dont take NO or Normal for an answer. Ask for a CBC (blood test) and ask for a white count it should not be above about 12.0 ( depending on how the lab values it) Above that is most likely an infection

It is definitely NOT normal and she must see a doctor now. Two things are totally wrong for post Lap Band

1) Fever

2) throwing up

Get her to somebody right away - right now.

I had a fever of 100 for 3 days after surgery. My doctor's instructions specifically said to call his immediately if the fever is 101 or higher. Your friend needs medical attention asap.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
