Yes I did! Dr. O'Malley. I'm 3 months post op. It's been a wonderful experience for me start to finish. You?

Yes!!! Dr. O'malley! I'm four weeks out this Tuesday. Mine has been wonderful as well! No problems. I'm still on puréed and am looking forward to the next diet menu. How wonderful for you to be at 3 months. I'm loving the exercise I just feel malnourished on the puréed plan lol..

I love my wine and had a very small glass about 3 months post op. I love to have a glass of wine with dinner and do most nights. I have also had a couple of screwdrivers when out, the alcohol effects me no different from pre op to post op, the only thing that is different is the slight buzz does not last as long. Pre surgery I drank 6-7 diet pepsi's a day, after surgery I stopped cold turkey. About 3-4 wks post op I was putting those flavor packets of lipton diet teas and have been using them ever since. I don't think they have much caffene in them at all. i do have a few sips of diet soda every once in a while but it all tastes like chemicals to me.

I used to LOVE coffee and I also love wine. I can't stand coffee or diet coke now. Coke taste like chemicals and I can't even describe the terrible taste of coffee.

My doc said I'm just not supposed to drink ever. I do terribly miss a glass if wine w dinner. I just wonder if I'm not gonna hate it too?

I can smell everything now. My sense of smell is crazy.

I agree, everything in moderation.

When I first had my op I could not stand the smell of coffee especially if the cup had not been moved when finished. Am able to drink it now but when finished I have to put the cup in the sink and put some Water in it. I suspect wine will first taste bitter but again in moderation will be how you remembered it.

Does anyone know what the big deal is about caffeine? I can see in excess but a cup or two of coffee or tea a day? Why not?

At least initially caffeine is a diuretic and can easily dehydrate you. It is usually a task for new bypass patients to get all their liquids in so adding caffeine which will dehydrate you will just add problems. Also it can be an irritant to your new pouch. Try and wait as long as you can before adding coffee back in to your diet and check with your surgeon. Mine doesn't want us to drink it because of dehydration issues.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
