Gastric Bypass Post op Day 3..

Recommended Posts

I never realized or read how hard the first few days were going to be. The gas hurts, it hurts to walk. I can't stand straight up. I'm running a low grade fever, they said to increase my fluids which I have been. I'm not having any trouble getting my Protein or clear fluids down. It's just the constant pain in my abdomen! How long does it last?

The burping hurts more then passing actual gas. I've had my first bowl movement (TMI) and I'm peeing with no problems at all.. I should be walking more..maybe that will help.

try to stay in front of the pain with your meds for next couple of days. walk as much as you can and then sip and rest, It gets better every day. it really really does, And everyone is different in how much pain they have due to how much "poking" around your surgeon did and the muscles disturbed and maybe scar tissue removed. But it will get better. A lot of the pain is probable gas and walking is about the only thing that will help that move.

Agree with Vicki... stay ahead of the pain by taking your pain meds and continue walking...it will get better .You may want to take a stool softner 2 x day too. This prevents Constipation which you can still have even thou you already had a BM!!

Hope you feel better soon!!

Vicki is 110% correct... if you stay ahead of the pain you will not have it too bad. If you let the pain get too high it is difficult to control, if you take your pain meds as directed it will not get past the point where you cant control it. So take as directed.

I had my surgery 11 days ago..i couldnt walk for the first 4 days after surgery and that made it a million times worse. I know it hurts but push through it and i promise it will get better. Stay ahead of the pain as well. I stopped taking mine because i was feeling well one day and my doctor wasnt too happy about it. Good luck to you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
