Do I need a fill?

Recommended Posts

OK so here's the deal

-I can eat bread

-The first cup of food I feel restriction but as I eat I stop feeling it so much and can eat more, sometimes up to 3 or 4 cups of food.< /p>

-I do not have any reflux

-I currently have 8.5cc's in a 10cc band

The above stats suggest that I can have a fill, I have no negative symptoms that would suggest that I am too tight. I feel that I should not be able to eat bread, but I am at 8.5cc's already!

That's it I am calling my surgeons office and scheduling a fill.

Sounds like a plan. Some bandsters can eat bread so that alone would not necessarily be an indicator. The fact that you can eat so much is probably the real factor in getting a fill.

I find it interesting that you feel full with the first cup, but that you can then keep eating. That borders on what is referred to on here as pouch packing. You might want to try some behavior changes first. Stop at the 1 cup and see if you can stay full for 3-4 hours between meals. If that doesn't work then go for a fill.

Good luck.

I would agree. The fact that you can eat more than a cup, cup and a half, don't feel full very long, looking for food and can eat most anything I would get a slight fill. I wouldn't worry about how much you have in there. They told me they can get almost double in your band if they need to from what it holds so don't let that scare you.

Well it's not that I feel fulness after the first cup, it's that I don't feel the band I guess. I spoke with my aunt who has been banded a long time and she says I am probably feeling first bite syndrome, because I can feel liquids going through, but only at first. And I have gone with only a cup of food many times because I count my calories, but I still feel hunger within 30 minutes, if it takes that long. I made my appointment and am going in Tuesday :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
