I am in the hospital and getting different doctors telling me different things. A doctor I have trusted for years (my obgyn) says it is my gallbladder causing my pain. The internal med doc says it is my gallbladder, but the general surgeon says it is an ulcer. From my research I think it is my gallbladder, but wanted to see if anyone here has had an ulcer after surgery and wht were your symptoms

I had an ulcer after my RNY. I had acute stomach pain that pain meds couldn't touch. One doctor told me I was obstipated (severe Constipation resulting in a compacted colon), one told me I had a stomach flu, and another told me they had no idea.....it wasn't diagnosed until my surgeon who did my RNY scoped me because he suspected an ulcer (i haven't had my gallbladder in 12 years, so we knew it wasn't that)!

One day I started having pain in the center of my chest did not want to eat. Everything I did eat went down hard and did not sit well. Frist thing I thought was gallbladder. Went and saw RNY doctor she ask if I was having trouble eating (yes) did it hurt to drink Water (yes) did the pain go under my right breast (no) she pressed on my abdomon and then told me I had a ulcer.

They put me back on acid blockers gave me a crip for ulcer Med's and sent me home. It took only 2 days for the Med's to start to work with in a week you would never know I had a ulcer.

My doctor did not like to call them ulcers but called them a wound where a staple in my pouch was getting infected Becuse of acid. Once back on acid blockers and ulcer Med's that cover the pouch from acid I feel fine.

Maybe you should call your RNY doctor and see what he/she thinks

Hope you feel better soon

I am not really having issues eating. It seems that it depends what doctor I speak with over this will depend on a diagnosis.

Hope you get better. My doc gives all his bypasses a script for a daily Prilosec 40mg cap for 2 months. Still waiting to get filled because insurance wants a PA(Prior Authorization). $170 for 30 days  Otherwise they want me to get the OTC. I'm a week postop and I feel like as of last night a might be developing one.

Lol I JUST went through this. My sister-i-law who is a nurse practitioner said it was my gallbladder no doubt, and after my Endoscopy 3 days ago it turns out I have 3 ulcers. Clearly the pain is very similar

I just started having pain in the middle of my chest / breast bone and have not been able to eat like normal. Should I just start taking Prilosec to see if it gets better?

Try it but you really need an Endoscopy

Hello RNY family,

So until I can get in with my doc I am trying to find out what is going on with me. I get these really bad pains in my stomach that sometimes goes away after I eat and sometimes not. I get a sharp pain on my left side of my chest almost like under by breast that only happens here and there. The big problem I have is the stomach pain I get throughout the day every day. It gets so bad sometimes that it drives me crazy and I am frantically trying to find something to eat hoping it will help the pain go away. I am able to eat find and drink fine. Has anyone had this problem or have heard of this? Thank you

So, I'm having this problem now and wondering how all of you made out with your ulcers? I have my 2nd egd the 14th and I am soooo scared every time I have a stomach pain that my pouch is gonna rip open and kill me! Omg. Yes, I have anxiety disorder. Lol.

Are you taking acid reducers? If not get on some. How far out are you?

I am taking Prilosec 20mgs twice a day and carafate 10mls four times a day and I'm about 6 weeks out. Ulcers developed about 4 weeks out. If you know anything that can help any info world be appreciated.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
