Lap Band To Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

So far I have all the preoperative test in, I just have to see the psychiatrist. And hope the surgeon Has all the clearances. I am hoping to go into surgery by November or December. I have lost a Lot of weight with the lap band, however, I still need to go much further. I have had some problems with the band, which may have helped cause my Barrett's esophagus. My biopsy came back negative for cancer, thank God. I am looking foward to continuing my journey toward better health. After all, I have so much to live for. I know I must wait for the approval of the insurance company, but, I don't see them denying the surgery. I'm sure my surgeon will fight on my behalf to help me get approved for surgery. I do have a super great team on my side, and lots of support from family and friends.

Good luck in the next steps. How long ago did you do the lap band?

About three to four years and 100 pounds lost. If the band didn't cause me problems, I'm sure I would have continued to loose more. Thank you for your thoughts, I am so eager to continue my journey.

Johnnybots...I was a lapband to RNY revision. My lapband came out 2010 and I had my RNY 7/11/2012. My lapband prolapsed and emergency surgery had to be done to take it out. I had suffered through a lapband revision 2 years after I had it put in and then the 2 years later the prolaps. I too did well with it but, after it came out I gained some back and decided I needed to stop the weight gain before I gained it all back. I've had a few infection issues with the RNY but, I don't regret having it done. Looking forward to when I feel 100% with it all. So far the weight loss is going well. I'm a slower loser but, still happy with the results.

Good luck with your journey :)

LosingItforme...thank you, I hope I won't suffer with more problems during my revision, they are doing everything in one shot. I just hope the insurance company, doesn't take a long time to approve the surgery.

I as well had my band removed in one shot . Banded in 2008 started having problems 2010. Complete slip in may 2012 and just did my rny on sep 11 . So far so good but I was put umber for 7 hours due to massive scar tissue from the band but I feel pretty good just a lot of Nauesa

HELWA1980... Nausea I can deal with. I don't anticipate any real problems. I just want to have it done. I'm glad things are better with you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
