When Will Gas And Queasy Go Away?

Recommended Posts

I'm still in the liquid stage but I still have so much gas by just drinking water... I also still get queasy when I'm drinking anything as well. I'm a week and a day post-op and it's getting so frustrating. It's impossible for me to get in 64oz or even 75g of Protein because of the gas and queasiness.

Make sure your walking, it helps a lot, I notice that I can only drink Water if it's ice cold. I also went through a few days of not being able to hold my liquids down, the doctor gave me some for nausea and stomach acid and been fine since.

To get all your liquids and Protein in on a daily basis, I start the second I wake by sip, sip, sip Water and usually by the end of the day I drink min. 64 oz. The protein I use about a cup of 2% milk and 2.5 scoops of portein powder and have that as a snack around 10 a.m., again... I sip, sip, sip constantly. I know, its difficult but you have to push to get those numbers down, its very important. Try walking that was my relief. Good luck.. it does get better... I promise !!!

I'm having the same problem with the queasiness

I'm almost 1 week post op & definitely struggling with getting in all my Protein (seems like nothing tastes good). The one thing I've found that has made the shakes a little more doable, is mixing milk (i use silk) with carnation instant Breakfast choc sugar free & then just add 1/2 a scoop of your Protein Powder. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem my first week. It will go away if you walk. I found that if I walked shortly after I would burp or pass gas. Also when you lay down try to sleep on alternating sides. Have Water with you all the time and sip as much as you can. Your second week will go much better.

I've been carrying Water every where I go, I just have the worst problem getting all of it down. I'll be glad when this struggling gets over with. I have been walking, maybe not enough do I'll step up there. I used to just chug my drinks like crazy before surgery, now with post-op life it's depressing barely being able to get anything down... And I'm super thirsty, just this gas and queasy feeling makes me hesitant.

Yeah, from what I hear, walking is the best medicine. Another member suggested baby gas drops.

Try using 2oz cups and mark in a notebook every time you finish one, so you know what your intake is, than more to 3oz cups etc

Hey,

The queasyness can last for 1 week to month for most people. Your doctor can give you nasuea meds that dissolve on the tongue to help with that. For the gas, I would use baby smithcone drops that's sold over the counter.

Drinking gets easier. I'm only 4 weeks post op and can pretty drink normal sized sips. Obviously I can't chug but it's a lot easier to get my liquids in. You will be feeling better soon I promise. I never thought I would feel "normal" so soon but I do!

That's what I have to the dissolvable meds.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
