New Advice On Pre-Op Diet, About Two Months Prior To Date!

Recommended Posts

Am kind of flying solo, as I have been waiting on insurance approval/surgery date. I was told I wouldn't get a date until around November but randomly got scheduled for September 24 (no complaining here!!). I don't see my doctor until August 21, and I need advice on what to eat now! What plan did y'all follow at this stage in the game? I feel like I want to et everything in the world but super guilty because I want to prepare and lose about 10-15 lbs before surgery. Help!!!

Hi I have my surgery the day after you 9/25/12 and I am using myfitnesspal to data entry everything I eat that's my step 1 , it was my birthday Thursday so I wanted to be free to eat what I wanted but I am being brutally honest and writing down EVERYTHING I eat. Just the knowledge that I have to account for everything helps me not mindlessly eat/snack. It's making me think about what I am eating.

Step 2 will be to eliminate the sweets and keep track and decrease carbs

Step 3 low carb no sweets

Step three if I haven't lost at least 25 lbs by sept 4th do an extra week of Optifast

Step 4 Optifast 2 weeks prior to surgery

Step 5 surgery!

Ps thanks for posting it helped me formalize my plan

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
