Pro Op Testing Today Found Hernia!

Recommended Posts

Had all my pre op testing today. Had to have an upper GI. Dr told me I have a hiatal hernia! Is this something that they would cancel my surgery for? Is this something he can repair with my surgery? I'm so ready for this and don't want a set back.

He can repair it during surgery, no big deal. I have one also that is getting repaired. Just make sure it is in your file that they will repair it at time of surgery.

My friend had one and they fixed it when they did her surgery and I don't think they would cancel your surgery for that!

Thanks guys. I'm going to give them a couple of days then call the dr office and ask. I'll let you know what happens.

I have one too. My surgeon said it was very mall and it might correct itself from the weight loss. Also he said a lot of over weight people have them. If its not that bad they might not have to remove it. I used to have pain and spasms but since the weight loss it hasn't bothered me. Good luck on your surgery.

Btw Vamp I love the new photo. You look fantastic! You must be so proud of yourself.

Aww thanks! I am very proud but I'm sulking because I'm dealing with extreme jealousy and control issues!

I had a upper GI prior to surgery which the report said there was nothing and everything was good for surgery. When I saw my dr. after surgery the first thing he said to me was "you had a hiatial hernia" which he removed/fixed. The dr. will take care of everything while he is in there - no biggie.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
