I started this journey about six months ago when I attended my first informational meeting at MMC. Now here I am getting ready for my surgery. I have struggled all my life with my weight since age 6. I have been on many diets and thought there was never going to be anything that worked for me. I had never considered gastric bypass surgery so when my physician suggested it to me I was very interested. She had seen me struggle through the years exercising losing and gaining .... I had always thought gastric bypass surgery was not for me because it would mean I was weak and unable to do this on my own. I am so happy to find out that that's not the case at all. It is especially for me! And I deserve it and I'm worth it! my surgery is scheduled for May 30. I am on my preop diet now. It is harder than I thought but I know what will be worth it!

Congrats!! I love how you say you deserve it!!

Good luck on your surgery, mine is a week later. I don't have to do any pre op diet and no bowel prep, so it kinda feels surreal. I will work on the 6th and then go in at 530 am for surgery. My dr said they have only had a problem with liver once- so they stopped the preop diet, and felt it was not needed to have bowel prep (must say I'm grateful for no bowel prep). But I have to do full week of clear liquid diet and two weeks of full liquid diet post-op.

It smazes me how different all the doctors are and even asked my doctor. He explained it to me and just asked me to trust them and follow their guidelines since they are experienced and that this is an art that they are perfecting. But it still is frustrating how it is so different from dr to dr.

Again congrats and good luck on your preop diet

Thanks OdieMom! I have a two week preop but no bowel prep...haven't heard of that before. I will do liquids for two weeks postoperative then blended for .3-6. It is very exciting to start this new life! We will have to compare notes after.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
