Hey everyone!

I'm scheduled to have gastric bypass on April 4th and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on things maybe the dr left out or things from a patients perspective on what to expect.

I was also curious on some food ideas once I am able to eat solids...maybe an idea on Protein shakes or food people like when they go out.

I was thinking of drinking Isopure for its whey Protein isolate.

Any feedback is so very appreciated.

Thank you all

Ashley

Congrats. I had my surgery on 12-20-11. The one thing I would do differently is stay the extra day at the hospital. I came home the next day and cried and was in a lot of pain at home. Pain was very well controlled in the hospital and I was up and walking feeling great. At home sleeping was the hardest thing. My bed was to high and caused me pain when getting into and out of it. I was told not to sleep in the recliner because of possible blood clots so my advice is if offered the extra day take it and stay in the hospital and recover another day before coming home.

Good luck to you.

Thats great! Thank you! I'll be sure to stay in as long as I can. I think my doc said about 2 days is normal. I'll have my surgery on wed and go home Friday of everything is ok. I have a waterbed at home :/ SOOO I'm pretty sure it will be sofa city for me for a long time :(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
