Question for all June sleevers

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions for all the June sleevers:

1. What all are you eating now?

2. How many calories are you eating?

3. Are you still drinking Protein shakes?

4. What are your stats right now? I know everyone is different, but just curious where everyone is on their journey!

5. Any other info you want to share. :D

Hi!

My surgery was June 10th. Here you go....

1. I try pretty much whatever I want but usually stick to chicken, turkey, tuna, cheese. I actually just tried beef today (at my parents and my dad made roast beef). No problems with it.

2. My calorie intake is between 500-800/day. Typically average a little over 600.

3. Protein shakes no. I do usually have a Protein Bar for Breakfast though.

4. Down 53.2lbs - just over halfway to my goal.

5. Losing a TON of hair. Started right at 3 months out. Hasn't slowed down yet but hopefully soon!

1. Tolerating anything I try but still following the rules.. Low carb/ high Protein. I've stayed away from starchy carbs but do eat fruit/veggies/meat/dairy. Eating 2-4 oz per sitting, depending on what I'm eating.

2. I don't count calories (per Dr. request)

3. I had stopped but started again after the hair loss started. Figured the extra protein couldn't hurt.

4. Surgery was on 6/11- - 71 lbs lost. :)

5. Love this sleeve. Down from size 22/24 to 14/16. Feeling great!

I was sleeved June 6.

1. I am eating yogurt, cottage cheese, pimento cheese, chicken, fish, etc. I have tried pretty much everything now except for Pasta, bread, potatoes, and rice. (I'm going to avoid those as long as possible.)

2. I usually eat somewhere between 800-1000 calories per day.

3. I will have a Protein shake every couple of weeks when I need Breakfast on the go.

4. I've lost 73.8 pounds, but 30 of that was pre-op.

5. I've never gotten sick or had any problems with anything I've tried. I have several glasses of wine or vodka and Crystal Light about twice a week. I always journal the alcohol in MFP, but I know that's why I'm losing more slowly than others; however, I was miserable during the six weeks that I couldn't have a drink. I live in New Orleans, and drinking is a large part of my social life. I haven't had the hair loss issue yet, at least not that I have noticed. I swim 2-3 times a week and go to a strength yoga class 2-3 times a week.

I am eating any Protein and veggies that I want. I stay away from carbs.

I am eating about 800 calories a day.

Yes, I still drink Protein Shakes daily. I have to be at work my 7:00a.m. and it is the easiest thing to do.

I have lost 54 pounds and my surgery date was June 7th.

Can't wait to lose the next 50 pounds! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
