I'm surprised that I haven't heard of this yet. Is it not that widely available in the states? When I went to the weight loss seminar, there was no mention of this as an option and the practice I am going to have been at this for 10-12 years... I wonder why?

If it helps you reach your weight loss goal and get healthier - you are not a failure. I don't consider myself a failure for choosing VSG over RNY - the whole reroute your intestines thing really creeped me out! :-P VSG is helping me accomplish my weight loss goals, so I'm definitely not a failure.

You can still consider yourself part of the WLS group and on the losers bench. Just repeat our mantra, "One of us, One of us, One of us.... gooble gobble... gooble gobble." :-P

It is theoretically reversible. No one has done it yet. It also doesn't remove the portion of your stomach that creates ghrelin (I can never spell that right). So you will continue to have hunger. It is a good option for some people' date=' but none of the options are perfect. You just need to pick the right one for you.[/quote']

This whole story about VSG and no hunger because ghrelin secreting part of stomach is chopped out is, well, questionable. Plenty of post op VSG folks will talk your ear off about hunger after post op month 6 or longer, including myself. And it is not head hunger. Either the secretion restarts in the stomach or it is secreted elsewhere in the attempt for the body to maintain the ever complex state of homeostasis. The best thing to do is accept that you will be hungry and develop healthy strategies to deal with it. For example, eating small amounts every 2-3 hours, not eating food that triggers spikes in insulin and continuing to not drink with meals.

Glad you had a successful surgery. Are you back home yet? How are you feeling? I know from your previous posts that you've been very nervous leading up to your surgery. Did you research plication prior to going down there or was it something they suggested once you got there?

Sorry for all the questions.... i plan on getting sleeved at OCC in January, but have slightly considered plication, so I'm interested in your experience.

I am the hotel still. I leave this afternoon to go home. I can't wait to be home! I researched plication a little before going but talked to Dr. Ortiz about it more thoroughly once I got there. He never pushed one surgery over another but let me make the decision. I still don't know how I feel about it but I am the type of person who seriously doubts important decisions. Ugh...I would probably feel the same way had I gotten the sleeve though too...doubting if that was the right decision or not. Yesterday was day 2 out of surgery and I felt pretty good. During the night however I woke up sweaty and dizzy and weak. It was awful. The dizziness finally faded after a few hours. I still feel pretty crappy though. My friend went and got me a Powerade that I mixed with Water. I am hoping the electrolytes and bit of sugar will help me feel better. We will see. I sure hope so because I don't want to feel crappy traveling home.

Anyway, Dr. Ortiz is best at answering questions about the plication. Good luck in your weight loss journey and let me know if I can help in any way.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
