Dfw area...soooo not telling anyone having surgery...ll

Recommended Posts

First - Find a support group! Your doc should know of one or more, and you'll meet others who can help you and you can help them!

Second - You need to have someone stay with you overnight! Everything should go FINE, but you need to have someone there "just in case" you have a pain or fall down or whatever. In the hospital, nurses are there to check on you, but at home, you should not be alone at first.

You could always take a cab home, but someone needs to be at your home.

Do you know someone who is also overweight and thus would probably not be judgemental? Ask him/her to help, and they may be very interested in what you're doing.

Very best wishes to you! Keep us posted.

I really think you need to have a support system at home. I can understand not wanting to ask to put someone out but this is important and they are your friends. If you feel better telling them it is for different procedure then do so, as long as you have some support.

You may try talking to the social worker at the hospital and explain to them you have support at home but they dont have transportation. They may allow you to leave via cab then.

Good luck and I would help if I could because I am in the area but I am going to be doing pre-op for my surgery that day if all goes well.

Let your friends help you. :)

Have you checked in to medical transport services?

I also had surgery with Dr Nick. I stayed 2 nights and the nurse said most people stay 2 nights. I stayed alone and preferred it that way. You really dont need anyone in the room with you and the nurses are getting you up to walk throughout the night anyway. If I am in town, I would be happy to pick you up. Just send me a private email.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
