My user name is beckymit and I am new to this forum. I am scheduled for lap band surgery on 2/5/07 and would just like to hear from people who have gone through it so I can know what to expect. I'm not sure if I am posting this right or not or how I am supposed to do it.

Hi Becky, I've been banded for 7 months and I'm down around 40 lbs. The band is a great tool. I like not being hungry anymore. I don't eat very much during the day so that is a good thing. Congrats on making this life changing decision. You will love your band.

Julie,

Thanks for the encouragement. I needed that. It is a scary proposition, but I know it is what I must do. I have tried all kinds of diets for the last 30 years and none have worked permanently. I am looking forward with trepidation to my lap banding and have asked for lots of prayers for what lies ahead. I am glad yours was so successful!

Becky

I had my pre-ops today and they discovered I have some gallstones. The doctor will remove them during the lap band surgery on 2/5/07. Has anyone else had gallstones removed and, if so, was the recovery period any longer? I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Hi Beckymit, I am also new, I am 62 and going to my first seminar Feb. 10th., I am so looking forward to having the lapband but I also worry about the first couple of weeks and the nausea.

I plan on having mine done in Topeka, KS. by Dr. Dunshee, I had a friend that went to him and has done quite well. He is also cheaper then the KC or Wichita area. I have BC/BS PPO and they won't pay anything. This is quite a sacrifice for me to have to pay this out of pocket but I am so sick and tierd of being sick and tierd, I just made up my mind I am going to do this for me.

My primary physician has encouraged me to do something for awhile now because I have so many illness because of my obesity. I'm jealous that you are going to get your's in a couple of weeks.

Please keep me posted on how you are doing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
