Who DOESN'T have a pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is October 11th and I wasn't given a pre-op diet. Feeling a little left out around this joint. :)

Ha! I was sleeved a little over 3 years ago now. Didn't have to so much but one nut visit, Oreos bloodwork and show up. Ha!

I'm being sleeved on Halloween and I do have one. But, its very lax. I can have 2 shakes, 1 fruit, 1 yogurt, 4oz of Protein, and unlimited veggies daily for 2 weeks.

I do not have one and must say I'm very happy to be left out of that category. I can not imagine the will power some must have, I don't know if I could be that strong. At least not with my stomach today.

I'm scheduled for the 11th too!! :)

I also don't have a pre op diet, just no eating after midnight the night before... Weird huh!! I thought I'd have to do the whole liquid diet too but they didn't mention anything about it but I am going to try to eat light the week prior to surgery just in case... :)

I didn't have one, just liquids the day before to ensure the stomach was empty for the procedure. I was told that in a few years, no one will need the pre op diet; apparently it's to shrink organs like the liver & make the surgery easier. According to my surgeon, as they get more experienced & confident, they won't need people to do this. I take it as a good sign; I've obviously got a great surgeon who didn't need the extra help! ;)

Don't think I could've done longer, one day was hideous...!

That's good to know. I don't have one either and it would have been hard for me as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
