Sidelined by a UTI! Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm 15 days post op, feeling great, back to work but ever since my catheter was removed after surgery I felt like I was getting a UTI. It went away then came back with a vengeance! Dr gave me cipro to take 2 x a day. My question is has this happened to anyone else & will this antibiotic effect my weight loss? I'm thankful for the treatment but I've been doing do well on pre-op diet & post op ( down 40lbs) thanks!

i actually had a uti before and while i was in the hospital and they were giving me antibiotics the day of and day after surgery. from there i took it for two days at home, and i lost 13lbs, but that was the first week after surgery. i think you should be fine. congrats on the 40lbs!

Yep, this exact thing happened to me when I had surgery for appendicitis. I haven't been sleeved yet.

When they took the catheter out, I got a UTI. It was horrible. :( The cipro will fix it. I don't think it'll affect your weight loss.

Thanks Idaho, my Dr said it was very common. I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Good luck on your journey! It's the best thing I've ever done, wish I would have done it sooner. This UTI is my 1 & only complaint!

I got lucky and didn't get a catheter (I had my period and I guess my surgeon wasn't too concerned, I used the bathroom two hours after surgery), I didn't even know I had a UTI before the surgery. They totally surprised me when pre-op called saying so, I had no symptoms! But I'm feeling really good. I'm still sore, but the gas pains are mostly gone and those were the worst!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
