Fluid drinking after surgery.

Recommended Posts

This is going to sound completely crazy because I already have the surgery but, there is a written in my booklet about whether 344.… I know it's an hour before or after but not both. They told me but it isn't written down in any of my booklets. I was hoping one of you might know so I can get this question clarified. If not, I will have to ask the doctors office. I really wish it was written down.

Blessings,

Natalie

If I understand the question, your asking about drinking with food? You can not drink with food. You can drink either 30 minutes before you eat,, and wait at least 30 minutes after eating to drink again. When you do drink, in the beginning do not gulp, sip slowly, not with a straw, but sip slowly. Drinking too fast will cause pain. Sorry if that didn't answer your question.

No drinking 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after

That's what I follow.

I was told something different it was either not to drink an hour before or an hour after… I'm not sure which one I guess it differs from doctor to doctor. But I can definitely say I'm having a hard time of it. I drink a lot of Water.< /p>

I had a HUGE problem with this at first too. I honesty started to eat so often, that I tried following the guidelines and it's true, you really do stay full longer.

Guarantee it has to do with after. You don't want that Water rushing your food through you want it to have a chance to process and sustain you longer. My NUT doesn't want me drinking for 15-30 before, but admits a sip will be fine if necessary but to make sure I do not drink for the hour after.

So maybe it's good that I drink all that Water? LOL just kidding… I'm honestly not really hungry – at least I don't think I am that is. I had a need for Protein today – I've been getting dizzy and a few other things but, I didn't rectify that in the best possible way. I'm just trying to you the best I can :-)

You'll figure out what works best for you along the way. I tend to wait 30-60 minutes after, but I do drink if I need to.

You're only 1 week out. Give yourself some time. If you keep gaining by week 3, then talk to your doctor, but as long as you're following the guidelines, you'll be okay.

I lost only 23 pounds by my 3rd week. Everyone is different. Don't come down on yourself for not losing fast as your body will lose as fast as it is comfortable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
