What was /is your motivation for having surgery!

Recommended Posts

I've been obese since I had my youngest kid 23 yrs ago. I have always carried my weight well and others tell me I exude confidence, but inside I have all the body shame and critical self talk. I'm so sick of the constant struggle with food and the shame cycle when I indulge. I've done a lot of work on this in therapy and processed the pros cons of surgery. On top of the mental stuff, There's the physical. I'm tired of my back, knees and feet hurting. I have high cholesterol and all the women on my family have developed diabetes by age 50. I can't do the active things I enjoy as easily when lugging around 75-80 extra lbs. I've developed a bit of a waddle. I can't wait to wear cute clothes and have curves vs rolls and lumps. The list goes on...

Same here! I'm an awesome person, imo, and I feel pretty confident in general, but when it comes to my weight and body shame I'm a mess. "no one will ever love me at this size", and it gets worse from there. One major reason for having this surgery is that I want my outsides to be as awesome as my insides, lol.

Girls dont like fat guys lol

One reason I got this surgery is the opposite - guys generally don't like fat girls. That being said, my 'type' is tall fat guys. I'm a tall, fat girl and I only ever feel 'dainty' and feminine when I'm with a much bigger guy. Sooo, we're out there, but I totally get where you're coming from.

Whats my motivation!!! I am tired of being fat point blank period!!! I am tired of working out and getting frustrated when I only see 10-15 pounds and give up t gain 30 back..I have clothes with the tag on them when I lost 40lbs but I gained 40+ back... I want to cross my legs.. I want to look down and see my vag jay jay..lol.. Without having to hold my stomach... I want to look sexy in panties and bras.. I don't want to be ashamed of my body... I want to work and wind m damn hips during sex and not be tired after 5..lol..

Sent from my iPad using VST

yeah...what she said...lol. oh and plus I'm a 42 yo with type II diabetes, highblood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea & asthma...I raised my two children ages 25 & 22 as a single mom, I never put myself as a priority during thier childhood, because life wouldn't allow it. I became depressed with the struggle of raising my kids alone and used food as my emotional crutch...I have decided that it's time for me to focus on myself and I really want to be healthy by the time my children figure out thier life path and settle down and make me a "glam-ma" one day! Whew..that was therapeutic

;-) LOL

Why?

Not one health issue, though some day that might have been factored in.

Why...because I'm totally, 100% shallow. I wanted to have fun shopping for myself, for the first time ever! Mission accomplished. Shopping, even just going to try on clothes because I can.....is fun!

An added bonus, well, there are many of them, but it is wonderful to not be the biggest girl in the room, and many times I am the smallest girl in the room.

Love your response!! Lets hear it for shallowness! :) I gotta admit, I really, really want to shop in the cute clothes section again!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
