Still nervous about crunches

Recommended Posts

I am almost 5 months post op and I am still nervous about doing crunches/situps. I walk 2 miles per day and do some minor leg/arm exercises daily, but the way my port feels when I try to do stomach exercises is weird (I can feel my port moving, or something).

My upper and lower abs are really what I need to target, so I guess I just need some reassurance, or to know if anyone has experienced problems by doing stomach exercises.

Thanks.....

I started my ab and lower back workouts 6 weeks post-op (my surgeon's recommendation). I did not have any problems. My port area did "twinge" a bit, due I would suspect to nothing other than the muscle movements (heck, nearly 11 months out and my port still "twinges" on occasion).

After 5 months I'd think you're golden!

I started doing ab stuff about 2 months post-op and haven't had any problems...other than sore muscles! :rose:

I started ab work 30 days after surgery...doc's OK...and at times if I did a lot of crunches, my port would feel a bit sore, but nothing bad. It all cleared up. Start slowly to build your confidence. Start with 10-20 and go from there. It sounds like it is more of a mental block than a physical one if you are this far out from surgery.

Good luck!!!

Personally my port still hurts when I do crunches. I am 6 months out. My doc says everyone is different. I did crunches for a week and my port hurt but only when I do the crunches. I think most people have no problems with their port. So if you can do them then you should. go for it. I work the bottom portion of my abs with no problem at all. I lay down, and hold on to someones lower legs while they stand in front of my head. Then I bring my legs all the way up and down slowly. It is an amazing exercise. It works my legs abs and Buns. I plan on trying more crunches. I am not saying you will have the same discomfort I have. In fact I think in time I will be able to crunches with no problem. Good luck I am sure like the other ladies you'll do great.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
