Not feeling a restriction!

Recommended Posts

Hi, Hopefully some one can help me. I had a Lap band fitted 29/03/06, I paid for it myself. I have had band fills but have never felt any restriction at all. I initially lost weight after my operation but who wouldnt! I have had numerous band fills I am now at 10mm and can not have any more fills - I still have NO restriction. I have had an X ray by my surgeon but he said he is baffled. He has to take advice from other specialists this was on the 17/11/06 still not heard anything even after chasing him up. I have made an appointment to see him next week but I am at my wits end as I believe the band is fitted wrong. but can not prove it. What can I do? Hopefully somebody can give me some good advice. Many thanks for your time in reading this Chris

I would be a thorn in your doctors side until he made it right. Do not give up. You keep going to see him, keep a food journal to show him what and when you eat. Keep us posted!!!!

Then if that's the case, and don't take this the wrong way, get off here and call your surgeon. If you're at 10cc (Iassume you meant 10cc? Because 10mm would be a different scenario...) in a band that holds 10cc, following the rules, and have no restriction it's time your surgeon intervene beyond giving you fills.

I know one person this happened to - just a few months ago. Her band had either slipped or was never placed correctly. We'll never know which. Better safe than sorry.

I would persist with him. It sounds like the band placement may be the issue. Can't he do a upper GI or barrium swallow to see where the band is?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
