Does the sleeve make food a non issue?

Recommended Posts

8 months out and everything seems "normal" and "routine" for me - that's a good thing! I don't feel like I'm doing anything really different or special. I just make better choices now and eat in smaller quantities' date=' not because I feel like I "should" more like because I "have to". It's just the way it is... so yeah, total non-issue![/quote']

My sentiments exactly, its not hard to eat pretty normal healthy foods,i cook for all my family I just have a tiny portion size because my sleeve prevents me overeating, just take the fat out and you can cook anything really, everything in moderation isnt bad for you , I cant obsess over food rest of my life, I just get on with living and loosing woo hoo:-)

Seems to me that getting the required Protein without pushing the calorie count too high means I will always obsess over food to an extent. I don't see this negatively. I think inattention to what I eat was a big part of my weight gain, and I don't want to go back.

OK... Here's the deal. We won't be like "normal" people. Nobody's "normal" . And each of us in the world have things we are good at and things we struggle with. On this board, let me posit that we do NOT have a normal relationship with food, and working on this will be a lifelong commitment. "Just eating" is not in the cards for me. I don't "worry" about it any more than I worry that I need glasses to drive. Just a fact of life.

For the rest of my life I will have to think about eating and activity. OK, I can deal with that. I might be healthier and live longer...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
