According to my surgeon:

If you suddenly can eat A LOT, like you've lost all resriction. And you have reflux where you didn't before.

or

If you can't eat ANYTHING, everything comes back up....and you have reflux where you didn't before.

Now there are others here who will tell of a slipped band that didn't exactly meet these symptoms, but it's a real fine place to start.

I couldn't eat anything. It hurt, and I had heart burn. If you notice I have only had the band for 4 months, I guess I was disillusioned that it wouldn't happen so soon. My advice, do what ever you can not to PB. I only PB'd 2 times. And don't get too many fills too quickly. I don't know if that's why it slipped but all I know is I had nothing but trouble after my last fill. If you get a fill and have pain when you eat or get to where you're hungry but can't eat call you Dr. ASAP and get the fill removed!

I haven't slipped, but here's what has been described to me:

Sudden loss of restriction

Sudden, overwhelming restriction

Onset of heartburn

Onset of acid reflux

"Odd" sensation when eating

Pain when eating, other than "normal" band pain

Excessive gurgling

Ok this is the story, I am three years out and I have lost 80lbs.I have had one fill six weeks after surgery and a complete unfill two months ago. My current weight is 155. I have a slipped band and I will require surgery soon. I am a self pay and I have not even paid off my last surgery yet. My husband will probably divorce me because we can’t afford another surgery.

My band was completely fool proof until three months ago. I loved it, after four or five ounces of food I felt like I had eaten a thanksgiving dinner. Occasionally, I would overeat, eat to fast or be too hungry, the result was vomiting. People call it purbing, “productive burping.” Perbing is the dirty little secret of having a Lap-band. Perbing is vomiting and ultimately it can cause a prolapsed stomach. After a bout of what I thought was stomach flu, I vomited more than usual.

The symptoms were the onset of reflux, stomach pain and more vomiting. The night time reflux became so bad that I aspirated and contracted pneumonia. I have been on anti-biotics, Nexium and Carafate. I now have ulcers and my barium upper GI showed that I am damaging my esophageal sphincter. I had an endoscope under fluoroscope and the bottom line is I have to have surgery and have my band fixed, revised or removed. I have an appointment with my original surgeon on Friday. I am not sure how this will all turn out but I want others to be aware that you can slip your band years later, after no problems and a good weight loss. I you eat until you vomit, you are eating too fast or too much.

I have pretty good insurance, but they will not cover the Lap-band. If I have any more complications with my second surgery I will be bankrupt. I never considered these possibilities when I had my initial surgery.

Would I have the LAP-BAND surgery knowing what I know now? Yes, absolutely I would have the surgery again. I love the result, losing this much weight has changed my life. I will figure it out, I will figure out how to pay for it, my husband will not divorce me. I will keep you all posted…….Jennifer

I am really scared I have a slip! I had a bad PB Tuesday night after dinner. Since then, I haven't been able to eat and I have heartburn which I haven't had in the past. I have no fill, so maybe I'm just swollen. I've been on liquids for 2 days but they gurgle down. I can't get into the doctor til next Wed. Should I go to my general practioner? I'm not sure if I'm paranoid, but I don't want to ignore something that can turn into a bigger problem down the line.

Your PCP probably can't help you socialgal. If you are completely unfilled then you should be OK. Your lapband doctor should be able to see you in an emergency. Keep after them.

rrm - you are just a month out. everyone gets hungry at that time and without a fill. Your band is just waiting there, doing nothing, until you get a fill.

I am self-pay, so I have to pay for my new operation. PB is Productive burp, which is basically like throwing up. They told me there is a 50/50 chance of fixing it or losing it. They won't know til they get in there. So I beg you all to be good and follow the bandster rules! You should check with your insurance if they cover complications, re-banding, etc.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
