1 month post op..need suggestions!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 8/10/13 in Tijuana.

I have had a very easy recovery. I stay hydrated and eat a little but as well.

As of today I am cleared for all food which is exciting because I don't care much about the foods I was allowed in the other stages.

I lost 32 pounds the first 2 weeks but nothing since. I know that is normal so I am not freaking out about it.

Starting tomorrow I am going to start eating every 2 hours and get 15grams of Protein in with each meal.

My questions is does anyone have any suggestions for small meals that will give me 15 grams of Protein?

I can eat very little still so I need ideas to meet that requirement. I also want to eat a variety of food and not just the same thing daily.

I plan on starting off with a fruit or coffee protein smoothie in the mornings so any recipes for those would be great. If you have a recipe that tastes like McDonald's or Starbucks Mocha Frappes that would be awesome.

I am a good cook so I appreciate ideas I can make as a family dinner but the easy grab and go protein Snacks will be great as well since most of the time it will just be me eating.

Thanks for everyones ideas!!

I make a coffee Protein Shake every morning. I make it with Hood Calorie Countdown nonfat milk, 1 scoop Chike Iced Coffee Protein powder, 1 tsp instant coffee. Does it taste just like Starbucks . . . no, but I find it delicious. Stats: 100 calories, 16 g protein, 9 carbs.

If you can do 2 oz. jumbo shrimp (I can barely eat 2 ounces of meat and I'm almost 3 months out), that's going to be 60 calories and 12 g. protein. I add a little hot sauce and some crumbled blue cheese to melt on top and that brings it to 14 g. protein for about 75 calories.

I eat a lot of Turkey burgers in different formats, some premade like Butterball's and ALDI fit and active. But I also like to make Turkey burger sliders because they are the perfect size for me and also my kids love them because they are cool. I use 1 lb ground turkey and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, and then add seasonings to taste and make 13 sliders from that they are about 90 calories and 11 grams of Protein per slider. Good Luck.

Do you use coffee grounds or do you make the coffee up first?

The sliders would be great but where do you get the slider Buns at?

I just use the grounds straight from the jar. Add with the milk and Protein Powder and whip it all up using my immersion blender. It's not thick like a frappuccino but it is really tasty.

I love Starbucks skinny vanilla lattes. I make a Protein coffee that tastes a lot like that. I mix 4 oz of skim milk with a scoop of unflavored nector medical protein and a shot of torini sugar free vanilla Syrup. Mix it into a cup of coffee (decaf is preferred to stat hydrated) and enjoy! Much better than one of those sickly sweet Protein Shakes.< /p>

I very rarely eat the buns or any bread products for that matter, but I do not have any problems with them when I do eat them, now I was probably 6 months post op before I ate any bread on any kind.

The sliders would be great but where do you get the slider buns at?

As I said I don't eat the buns but for the kids i buy just plain dinner rolls that when cut in half the sliders fit on perfect. Also, the Giant Eagle sales slider rolls in the bakery. If I want to eat them on bread i usually will use half a Joseph's brand flat bread, or a Arnold's brand Sandwich Thin.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
