Anyone else having severe stomach aches?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 8/20/13 and had a pretty drama free surgery and first couple of weeks. Thursday, I was constipated all day, so took a laxative at bedtime. All day yesterday and all day today, I've had the worse stomach pain. I called the doctor this morning and he said to go back on nothing but liquids and allow my stomach more time to heal. I am at my wits end with this pain. I had taken one of the pain pills left over from surgery before calling him this morning. I told him I took it and he basically said not to take a narcotic for a stomach ache. Well, the pain I've been having is worse than anything I had after surgery, so I believe my decision had merit. Now, after suffering all day, I've taken another one so that I may hopefully be able to sleep. I'm terrified. Truly terrified. I can stop projecting and worrying about being in pain the rest of my life. I've lost almost 33 lbs since the pre-op diet, but if this pain doesn't go away, it's not worth it. I'd love to know if anyone else went through anything like this, what was determined to be wrong, and if it was resolved. I know there are those that have had trouble, even to the point of not being able to keep any solids down, but I started off so strong. I can't believe I'm going through this now. It's killing my attitude. I'm trying not to cry, but it's really hard.

I know my reply doesn't address your main concern, but narcotics make a person extremely constipated. If you're already having that issue, don't compound it with narcotics, or at least take some senna tablets with it to prevent Constipation.< /p>

I second that. Try a hot pad on your tummy, it's surprisingly helpful for the pain.

I had the same pain issue, it seem liked my incisions would hurt so bad that I couldn't get any relief. I'm not sure if this is whats causing your pain. I would feel like they were shooting pains coming from stomach and they did not stop until week 4. Your stomach will need a lot of time to heal. 6 weeks out and I can say I don't have any pain what so ever from the surgery.

I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I had my sleeve on 8/5/13 and have had some Constipation but I was given suppositories when I was discharged. My Dr told me to only use what I've been given which is the colace and the suppositories. You're probably not drinking enough.

Fred, did you hurt from day one? I had absolutely no pain, then 16 days out, I started hurting and am still hurting. It's not my incisions though. I feel like someone punched me in the stomach. I drink at least 70 oz of Water a day. As far as the laxative goes, I knew I should be taking softener, but didn't have any and was unable to go get any. The dosage was 2 pills so I only took one. Doc didn't say there was an issue with that, but who knows. I'm constantly drinking and have no problem getting in enough Protein. So tired of the pain :(

Does it feel like gas pains? It's odd to have them this late but if you're constipated I suppose it's possible?

So sorry you're hurting :(

Yes I hurt from day 1, but things got better around week 4. Your body may just need more time. If all your vital signs are normal and you have a lot of stomach pain then the dr may want to wait quite awhile until your stomach is safe to address. You have staples in there now and some people have different body reactions to the surgery. I hope you do get to feel better. Is there anything that you take or do that does help with your pain?

Phillips Milk of Magnesia to help when my bowels don't move after several days. Always works and no cramps.

Update...I have a blood clot between my stomach and liver. ER doc has never seen one there and no idea how to treat. They admitted me, giving me Heparin to stop growth and will consult with specialist in morning.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
