Hey all,

I underwent the lap-band procedure on December 26, 2006 by Dr. Collier in Houston, Texas. I have been doing well, it is just taking my big incision forever to heal and over the last couple of days has started to hurt. I have lost around 20 pounds (not too sure because my scale went caput) but all my clothes are fitting better. I am excited to get my first fill, though I am a bit nervous. I feel like I can eat like I should, but not like I want to. I am having a hard time because I mentally want to eat more, but I physically can't. I can eat more than I expected. I guess this will change after my first fill.

Keep on Keeping on,

Ginger

Hi Ginger, welcome to the forum. As far as your first fill goes, it may not restrict you as much as you would expect. Depends on the size of your band. My wife had to go back 6 times before she got the right restriction. She has been banded one year, as of Dec 28th. She and I were both from the Houston area...a loooooooong time ago. She is from Pasadena and I lived on the Northwest side, inside 610. Right now, don't worry about losing weight, please.....just take this time to heal well. The losing will come later.

Everything changes after your first fill. I is normal to be able to eat like a prebandster if you aren't filled yet. It may take more than 1 fill to meet optimal level so hang in there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
