Recommended Posts

Hi, I am 17 months post op and 92 pound down. I just found out Im 6 weeks pregnant. I am so afraid because there are times I don't really eat then times I feel I can't stop eating. Im worried about my child being healthy as well as undoing all of the progress I've made thus far. Im so worried any advice would be much appreciated oh an did I mention Im OLD!!! IM 36 going on 37 makes me even more fearful but oh so excited.

Congratulations! Consult with your doctor, of course, and I'm sure all will be well!

Congratulations Tabbmarsha!!! From what I've read on here and the advice of my ob/gyn you should be just fine. The pregnancy will probably be healthier for you since you are down 92lbs (congrats!!!). Remember a growing fetus needs nutrition, but not all the extra craziness some pregnant women indulge in....lol!! At 17 months post-op your timing is great too according my surgeon, he told me I had to wait at least 12 months before hubby and i could start trying. (I can't wait to start trying)

Congrats!!! I am 3 years post op. My son is 19 months old. Hydration was my biggest issue. I was two weeks early from not being hydrated. As far as the pregnancy. I ate Protein first like normal but ate more meals during the day. There were times I was nauseated from pregnancy and being sleeved didn't help but its manageable. Just be mindful and don't fall into the mind set " I'm pregnant I can eat what I want" I actually weight 2 lbs less one week after giving birth then when I found out I was pregnant.

Chittick24 thanks for the information, it's really helpful to read about your experience. I am very concerned about weight gain, so I'm glad to hear you didn't have any issues. Did you experience the nausea prior to your pregnancy?

Thanks for the info and encouragment I am not having any nausea or anything. If it weren't for the constant bathroom trips and superhero keen sense of smell I wouldn't even know I was pregnant. I lost 5 pounds last week now I know why but Im gonna take the advice here an just eat healthy Protein and veggies first, continue to work out and limit my sweets an Im sure Ill be fine. Im going to enjoy my pregnancy instead of stress out about numers on the scale.

I did have nausea before getting pregnant but now that I reflect back I think it was from not eating slowly or not taking my heart burn medicine. But while pregnant it was different. Pay attention to your body. The baby will take what it needs from you.. Just be sure that your doing what you should .. Drinking Water is key... Then protein.. And lots of rest

And when the baby is born stay focused on the goals you set for you. I lost my way a little. I wish I would have realized before to focus more on what I needed and the baby too.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
