When does the constipation stop?

Recommended Posts

I used to be a regular once a day gal and before my surgery in June I used to read about people having issues with Constipation. I didn't think that would happen to me but boy was I wrong. I now cannot go anymore unless I take milk of magnesia yuck! I've tried stool softeners which used to work if I ever had any issues but doesn't work anymore. They just seem to give me gas now lol. When does the constipation stop?

For me it has just started improving when I got cleared to move to soft Proteins (including beans(lentil soup)) and my Fiber intake went from 0 to over 30 a day ( I ramped up gradually). I'm still so "traumatized" from the Experiences of Constipation during the first two weeks ( stool softeners weren't working) that I'm still afraid to go, but each time gets a bit easier.

If you can't move on to beans/food based Fiber yet in your program, I'd recommend adding Miralax, or the cvs brand purelax. The draw moisture into the tract and make things softer.

I'm 11 months out and still have Constipation that I never had when I was heavier, but I'm still glad I lost the weight.

I had Constipation at about month 9 and it lasted about a month and a half. I was miserable. I think drinking more Water really helped.

From my experience, you can say goodbye to once a day movements. Every two to three days is my new norm.

I am 10 months and would say I am still constipated to a degree, although I am going a little more often now without "aids" than I was before. I was using Miralax and it is very gentle and can be used every day if need be. Now I use a stool softener but not every day. I only have a BM about 2 times per week (if I am lucky - if not then I take the stool softener)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
