Hi All, Last night I watched The Biggest Loser and one of the contestants lost 9 kgs in one week. I have lost that in six weeks. Sorry but losing 9 kgs in a week can't be good for you. It is far too much. They have to train for 6 hours a day. No wonder a lot of them have had injuries.

That is just excessive. I also think that it is irresponsible to promote that amount of weight loss in a week as healthy. I know it is only for the show, but people watching it may think that is what is required to lose weight.:welldoneclap:

This is a lifetime process, and it has to be done in a way that it promotes health and teaches lifetime good habits.

Meredith your beloved Big Brother should be back on our screens soon!:biggrin1:

Saw the ad for it last night.

The thing that gets me about biggest loser is that there is no way that they can keep up that level of exercise to maintain that weight loss once they leave the show! I mean who has 6 hours a day to exercise when you are working and looking after a family and having a life!! My Dr told me that 0.5 to 1 kg a week is a healthy maintainable weight loss. My sister is doing weight watchers right now, and they've told her the same thing. I know its a TV show, but its just not a promotion of anything healthy!

Hey Meredith, Did your sister ever think about getting banded? With you and your dad being banded, your sister could make it a family trifecta!:biggrin1: Susannah

Who else has skinny siblings?

My middle sister is gorgeous, she's so petite, about 54kg and she has the flattest stomach you have ever seen, its utterly perfect. She's also a half marathon runner.

My baby sister is like me, not as fat as I got but mid 30's, 2 kids, the crazy life that results and she's been gaining lately, I'm sorry to say it but I think she's on her way to obesity.

My parents arent obese, both could lose a bit but they're in their late 60's now, so really, that's pretty normal.

Doug's 6ft 3 and 112kg, his sister is 5ft and 42kg, lol! Thank god it didnt turn out the other way around, hehehe.

Hi, Good question Jacqui. My father is not overweight, my mother has the tendency in that direction but she keeps it in check and would weigh about 70kgs. My siblings are not really obese but they could head in that direction, but they all keep it in check. I was the one to let myself go. I so wish that I hadn't now. I am ashamed that I got as heavy as I did.:Banane30:

Oh well, at least I am working towards getting it off now.

Are you guys not looking forward to being surrounded by chocolate at easter time? :Banane30:

Jews are not allowed to eat chametz ( Bread) over passover. Mate that is fine with me coz I can't eat bread anyway! LOL:biggrin1:

I got whacked with the "Big Bones" stick big time.

My Mum is 5'3" and weighs about 55kg she's 60 this year, she's all petite and tiny - she never knew what to make of me and my "big bones".

My dad is 6'1" and about 80kg - but even at 60 he's quite muscled and fit.

However, I'm not alone! My brother is BIG too, he's 6'5" but I swear he probably weighs about 180-200kg.

My mother has never been able to deal with us being big kids. But that's a whole OTHER thread!

Hey Susannah, can you eat matzoh at Passover? Do you think you would be ok with that?

OMG, If I still lived in Melbourne I don't think I'd be able to go through with being banded.

I lived two streets away from Carlisle St, Balaclava and absolutely lived for Thursday nights when I could go down to Glicks or one of the other bakeries at about 11pm and get some hot hot fresh out of the oven raisin challah.

I can't start thinking about "Jewish" food...I swear not a day goes past when I don't think about Soup nuts and Yummi's trout mousse.

No wonder I need the band!

Hey Blyth, Mate I love Glicks!:frog: But my love affair has had to come to an end. There is a new glicks in elsternwick. I also Love the Aviv cake shop in Elsternwick. Not any more though. They were my crack houses!:biggrin1:

I used to love fruit challah, but it is so doughy that there aint no way it will go through the band.

Only my mum's family are Jewish and we are those shock horror progressive Jews!:Banane30: :der: My rabbi drives on shabbat. My cousins are more orthodox Jews, and they would not set foot in a reform shule.

Each to their own, Coz its all gravy baby.;)

How are things going for you Blyth?

Susannah

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
