Another queation for PostOps

For this I am talking directly after the surgery. Maybe the first two or three weeks. How has the surgery affected you sleeping?

Is it only comfortable to sleep on your back? Or maybe one side or the other?

I slept in my bed from day 1 with 3 pillows. I slept just fine! Week 2 I slept on my side with a pillow under my tummy and that was wonderful. No problems sleeping for me!

I slept in my recliner chair for a few days, I could not get comfortable in bed. It took about a week, maybe 10 days before I could comfortably lay flat to sleep. I am 4 weeks post op now and can sleep on back, side or stomach.

I always sleep on my sides and that's how I slept even in the hospital. It really wasn't a problem. If you're a stomach sleeper however, they might be different. I'd imagine that might take a few weeks.

I slept sitting up on the couch for the first 2 weeks- I could not get comfortable in my bed. I wasn't able to sleep on my side until 3 weeks, and my stomach until 4 weeks.

I slept on my back/side for the first 3 days, then it was back to the belly for me. No pillows, good luck!

I slept fine on my back, but I had alot of pillows around me. I was not as big as most people who get the surgery, so I did feel it if I tried to sleep on my side. Definitely didn't sleep on my stomach, but really didn't before the surgery either. I did notice that when I went for a massage, three weeks after surgery, it was uncomfortable to lay on my stomach. Hope this helps!

I put a body pillow behind my back and slept on my side from day 2 forward. I was only in the hospital for one night and I didn't sleep at all because I was walking the gas out allllllllll night long. I loved the body pillow. Best investment ever.

Thanks so much for the responses. I'm a stomach sleeper. And if I'm not on my stomach have to be on my side with a pillow. First few days may be hard. Good luck to everyone.

Something else popped into my head this morning since I'm a work.

The only stories on here I read are stories like, "I have a desk job so went back after a week!" I don't have a desk job. I have a very physical job. In fact I'm not allowed to sit except on lunches and breaks. I constantly have to bend over and pick up boxes. Lift 50 lbs if need be.

Anyone have a job like that on here? How soon were you back to work?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
