Struggling with the preop diet and then this ugg

Recommended Posts

so i'm on day 4 of the preop liquid diet, (3 shakes, 3 servings of dairy, and 1 cup of veggies) is all my surgeon allows and I'm struggling but doing ok. broth really helps me. However today I got a call from the hospital and the doctor wants me to go in for more labs. I have to go in on thursday, and this means 8 hours of fasting completely just Water. I wanted to say to the lady are you f**ing kidding me. I didn't though, I just said ok. Maybe it's the lack of food and the adjustment but i just wnat to cry. I'm sorry for venting. :-(

It can definitely be a struggle, the added anxiety of more labs must be daunting. Is there any way you can go early in the day, using your sleeping hours as your "fasting" time? That always helps me when I need fasting bloodwork.

A post by Webchickadee nailed my thoughts on the pre-op diet on the head.

Mindset was crucial to me to be able to get through it with my sanity in tact.

Best of luck to you!! You can do it. Better to vent and get feedback from others who have gone through the same than to give up and suffer alone.

unfortunately they don't open until 9 because they want me to get and EKG as well again... I figured that was coming because I have a heart condition, so i have to wait until after work at 4:45 to go.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
