5 days post op GAS AND DIARRHEA

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 weeks post-op. The loose bowel movements are normal, and it went away for me when I switched to soft foods. The gas pain was horrid for me--especially in my back and left shoulder--walking and a heating pad helped me out the most. I had lingering air in my left shoulder up until week 3/4. Towards the end I only felt it when I would exercise.

Walk, walk, walk and walk some more. This will help the gas pains. Sorry about the diarrhea. Not something I have to deal with.

drmusicmom, I had the exact same thing 4 days ago 9/3. I am also having diarrhea, not so much burping. I am not having any problems getting down Water or pro shakes or anything thus far. How are you?

Hi all. I am brand new here. Had my band removal and sleeve conversion on Monday. I feel great other than all the belly gas and diarrhea. Plus some burping. Is this normal and how long does it last. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. Any help will help

I had same surgery - band removal, hernia repair, sleeve on July 16. Day 3 post-op was by far the worst for me. Terrible gas pain. Walk, walk, & walk some more to get rid of it. Diarrhea big issue first couple weeks - partially due to taking in only liquids; but I think I have become mildly lactose intolerant since surgery so still deal with it a little when I drink Protein Shakes or milk. Weight loss is a little slower than I expected; but I'll take slow & steady. Stalked when I started back at the gym; but fortunately didn't last long. Best of luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
