Nope! My Doc only wanted the upper GI. Thank goodness because I heard some unpleasant stories about the endoscop!

I did my upper GI last Friday. The barium was nasty but it was really cool seeing the pictures inside of my body. I am not looking forward to doing the Upper GI after the surgery though.

Congrats! I didn't have to have an endo either. Which I'm thankful for!

Yes first of all they give you this drink called " fizzies" once I drank it, it showed up on the screen as this big air bubble ! They want the air bubble I guess to get a better look at everything. Then the nasty chalky drank! It's really cool to see everything traveling down your digestive track.

I thought an upper GI and endoscopy were one in the same...they called it an upper GI, anyway. I went last week, IV, then gargled with lidocaine (nasty) and was given some anesthesia so I slept through the procedure... Sounds like a totally different procedure!?! I wonder why doctors use these different techniques and does one provide much more information than another? My results were normal except for some irritation that they found. They said that I could take Prilosec but I don't have any symptoms of reflux... Hoping that this is not an issue moving forward. I'm all done except for my psych evaluation so my fingers are crossed!!!

Yes it it two different test. I made a mistake and scheduled for endo thinking it was the same as upper GI until I called my surgeons office and was informed that I didn't need an endo. I believe some surgeons require different things.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
