Can you share your good and easy to make meal favorites?

I am about 6 1/2 weeks post op now and really feel like I need more variety in my meals. For the past two days in a row I ate Lean Cuisine meals which tasted great but I know due to the carbs and sodium they are not a good choice. I never knew how to make good healthy meals prior to getting sleeved. What kinds of meals do you make?

I'm still on softs, so not very creative yet to be helpful to you other than to tell you that I found several bariatric surgery cookbooks on Amazon. I bought a couple and expect that once I hit the regular diet in (9 days!) I'll be trying some of the recipes out. They looked pretty good, might be worth some surfing.

This is what i ate for dinner last week. I had turkey wings cooked in an electric pressure cooker but would be just as good cooked in a Dutch oven or pot on the stove with no side ( turkey was so big so I couldn't fit any side). I had baked tilapia with salad. Lets see, I had chicken tenderloins sautéed in EV Coconut Oil with green Beans and sweet potato. I had a chili dog. I had Protein shake and watermelon. My Breakfast is usually a Protein Shake and i usually have fruit and leftover meat/protein from the night before for lunch.I snack on sunflower seeds, pork skins, carbmaster yogurt, fruit. If I have to have chips or junk, I get a single serving and have it then and there. I don't get a large size nor do I bring it home. I satisfy my craving and leave it at that.

I try not to make too big of a deal out of food and remember that I eat to live and not live to eat. I find that this helps me because I love to cook and if I'm going to cook it, I'm going to eat it and that's what got me here in the first place.

Well while I am on the pureed/ soft food stage I put some chicken breats in to my blender & added a little bit of salsa to help keep it moist & blended it all up well. Added some low far chedder cheese to it & melted it on top & then just a tiny bit of sour cream & it tasted just like a chicken quesadilla without the tortilla. :) 2 chicken breasts made this way last for several meals. I loved it & it was so yummy!!!!

Good call! I was so excited today to eat food that actually looked like "real food"! All last week (my first week of softs) I managed on tuna salad, egg salad, yogurts, and Soups. Both tuna and egg went into the food processor. Kinda glad I did that, because it was a good transition, but I'm so ready for real food. So this morning I made high-protein pancakes (Wonderslim that I ordered from Bariatric Choice), used 1/3 c milk instead of 1/4 c Water for the pouch of mix and spread 1 tbsp of sunflower seed butter on the 2 (what I used to consider tiny) pancakes it made. About 300 cal total. I was literally full after about 5 bites. It was only about 10% of my first foray into post-surgery cooking. I figured it was about 38 calories. I slowed way down and took a small bite every 3-5 minutes and was able to get one of the pancakes down and had the second for lunch. Then for dinner, hubbs made himself some boxed crap with hamburger and held out 1/4c of the ground beef for me and pulsed it in my mini cuisinart and I had 1/2c of canned green Beans. It took me about 90 minutes to eat it, but I'd never been so excited to eat plain ground beef and canned green Beans in my life :-) More creative days are ahead for me, though, I'm sure!

I'm a sleeve vet, 3 yrs, and I recommend, plain greek yogurt that you dress up yourself -fewer hidden sugars and cals that way. homemade chicken salad, any recipe from the blog The World According to Eggface, and whatever you do - stay away from prepackaged as much as possible ;)

I'm newly sleeved and have started experimenting because I need to cook for my family and find something I can eat as well. I work full time so I also need things quick and easy. Last night I used the crock pot. I put two chicken breast cut up in small pieces, a large can of progressive mushroom Soup, a cup of Water, a cup of rice, added some seasonings, put it on high for 3 hours and presto! an easy meal for everyone! I love my crock pot. It helps keep meats moist which is good for the sleeve.

chicken salad, tuna salad, salmon (they have patties at trader joes or costco and frozen filets by Gordon's are yummy)- broil them with lemon pepper, teriyaki sauce, herb butter etc and you can have one meat a million ways, chili with cheese and Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream), Atkins meals, lunch meat and cheese in 1/4 of a pita, hummus, sautéed chicken, baked chicken, I do a lot of Mexican shredded chicken and then I can make a taco, or enchilada out of it or make a quesadilla out of a flat out wrap.

Hello im bout 11 1/2 weeks post op my main meal ive been making for lunch/dinner is quinoa great healthy alternative to rice I boil with a cube of chicken bouillon and garlic, garnish with diced tomatoes,chives, and diced avocados . Grill/broil chicken breast with pepper salt and garlic powder and drizzle with olive oil and served over the quinoa :) made it for dinner tonight and hubby actually loved his cause I topped it off with a spicy mango salsa

That site is amazing! I will have to spend more time there. I notice she only has Snacks listed there or are am I missing meals or does she just eat the Snacks for meals?

Goodlady - what are you characterizing as "snacks"? Her portions are WLS appropriate but she makes real meals as well as appetizers, Snacks, Desserts, Protein Shakes, etc. Explore her site, it is so helpful, you will see people pulling from her again and again here on VST over in the food & Nutrition section - her Ricotta Bake is the stuff of legend for post-ops in the mushies phase! :)

I'm 6 weeks out so I'm guessing your on regular foods too? I like experimenting because I've also been kinda bored. Fr lunch yesterday I ended up cutting up a string cheese, and shredding up some boars head chicken breast, and tossing it in homemade buffalo wing sauce. It was so good! Put it in the microwave for a second so the cheese just starts to melt..yum!

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
