The difference between lose and loose...

Recommended Posts

I come off here as a lousy speller. The fact is that my ipad for reasons of its own changes my spellings. it joins words, drops letters. changes spellings and adds/deletes caps at will. If there is spell check on it I have yet to discover it. Sometimes I click "post" without first checking it. I used to be mortified when later I would look back on it and see the terrible typos, including loose-lose. Now, not so much.

This is a help forum and there are people from many backgrounds and levels of education here. I do think it's kind of mean to point out the grammar mistakes of others in a help forum. Some people have issues they struggle with and those people should be able to ask or answer a question without fear of being ridiculed. I personally know someone that would get a great deal out of this forum and be able to contribute greatly due to her unique history but will not try. She came and read through many threads and decided that it wasn't worth the risk of embarrassment. She shouldn't have to feel that way, not in the adult world.

OK, not a problem. You put it in the Rants section because you can. I voiced my opinion on it because I can. No biggy. I just don't think its cool to be mean or hurtful to others and its certainly not funny. Just my opinion and I'll bet the world will continue to spin even though it differs from yours. Its all good.

You know, after thinking about this a bit I can understand where you are coming from. If you knew me in real life or even from this forum, you would know that I have a good heart. I make fun of myself more than anyone I know. You can look in the fitness section and see what I'm talking about. I am terrible at grammar and am thankful for spell check. In fact, when I first started looking into surgery over 2 years ago and joined this forum, I had to figure out how to spell lose and loose because I didn't know which one was correct!

Also, everyone on this forum is at a different stage in their journey. When I first joined if I would have read this post it may have offended me because I was at a very emotional state. Now, not so much. I don't dwell on it if people use the words lose and loose wrong. I didn't even have any certain person in mind when I posted this, just something I have seen a lot on here recently.

We are all in this weight loss thing together, doesn't matter if we want to lose or loose the weight!

On the other hand.. Wouldn't it be nice if this was our greatest worry in life?

Yippee... It's Friday :D

Indeed it would!

Hope everyone knows, no harm intended. I, for one, am one of the world's worst spellers and have to go back and edit what I post more often than not. I know we are not supposed to get on each other for spelling and grammar. I will not even use my iPad for this forum because of my spelling atrocities! Yes, they are that bad.

For me and probably most of us, it's not really a rant specifically for this forum, it's life in general. We see it on Facebook and every other social media all the time.

Our oldest son is, and always has been a spelling and grammar Nazi, I guess it's no wonder he got a journalism degree. I used to get my emails back when he was in college corrected. Seriously. While no one's abilities are being questioned we really were just having a bit of fun on a Friday morning with no harm intended.

Everyone should feel welcome here.

Happy Friday everyone!

P.S. while it is now known that no harm is intended, one more for me. The whole texting thing. b4? U? GR8?Really kids, just spell it out, you can type faster with two thumbs than I ever could with ten fingers! How hard can it be?

OK, NOW I'm done. :P

Backing away from my computer.

I've never let my school interfere with my education.

Mark Twain

The fact of the matter is we are all human. We make mistakes on a daily basis!

Life is short...we are fat.... And we can't spell!

I don't know about you, but I'm working on the not being fat thing, spelling can wait or should I say weight :D

Love this one! See even Mark Twain can make fun of himself! That's what life is all about. Ok, I am off now to do those lunges!

Have a great day everyone

Hey, it really wasn't all that big a deal. I appreciate you reconsidered and understand what I was saying and I don't think that you're mean. I don't think that anyone that agreed with you is mean either. If I had thought you were trying to be mean my response and tone would have been altogether different. Had it not been for the person I mentioned I wouldn't have said anything. For her it isn't typos. She just quite simply cannot spell and has spent her lifetime trying to improve. She honestly did talk to me about it one day. I had suggested she come here to read and ask questions on the Pre-Surgery area. She did and was ridiculed. Of course she never came back. I was going for a gentle reminder about feelings because I know how hers were hurt that way. I apologize if it came out differently.

Hmmm...not even going to respond to this one. Lauging out loud. (I would normally type LOL but I am honoring your request, since it is your birthday!)

No worries, I understand! No need to apologize. It's always good to have a reminder or view it from a different point of view.

Sorry guys, I know you are having fun making fun of members, but per our forum rules I am locking this thread:

5. Members will treat each other with courtesy and respect, especially when they disagree. We understand that bright, intelligent and educated people may not always agree, but personal attacks in the form of insults, abusive language or other means of obvious harassment will not be tolerated.

  • Do not attack, mock, or otherwise insult others. You can respectfully disagree with the message or topic, but you cannot attack the messenger. This includes attacks against the user’s spelling or command of written English, or belittling a user for posting a duplicate topic.
  • If you are attacked by another user, and you reciprocate, you will also be subject to the same consequences. Defending yourself or a friend is not an excuse! Do not take matters into your own hands – instead, use the Report Post link to report an attack and we will be happy to handle the situation for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
