Sudden tightness- but why???

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I'm 3wks post op now and having been feeling pretty good the last couple weeks. This morning I woke up and felt really tight though- much tighter than normal. I tried drinking some warm Water (don't drink tea or coffee) but it didn't help. Even now I feel really tight, and like there is an air bubble trapped or something. I've tried burping but that slightly uncomfortable pressure doesn't go away. The ONLY thing I can come up with is that yesterday I didn't drink much water at all- usually I drink more than 8 glasses daily. Anway it's a religious thing- I fasted until dinner on Sunday and then got maybe 2-3 glasses in before bed.

could my lack of water yesterday be causing the super-tight feeling today??? I'm back on track with my water levels now but I'm just wondering if these things could be related??

Thanks!

yes!!! To water and to NOT eating!! I know it mught be religious, but a person is not supposed to fast if they are recovering from surgery!!!!!!!!!! You are RECOVERING...No Fasting!!! really, consider yourself exempt. Elderly, small children and sick people are always exempt...that includes recovering from surgery and your recovery period is about six weeks.

The band is tricky. Any change from routine can create havoc. If fasting is something you have to do, then be prepared for some changes in your band. It won't create any long term problems, so don't worry about that.

BTW, band tightness seems to fluctuate. Menstrual cycles and even the time of day seem to affect the tightness of the band.

Thanks guys. I will hold off on the fasting for now. I still feel quite gassy and tight. I'm also wondering if mb it had to do with the gum I chewed the other day. Anyway, I just hope the feeling goes away soon it's not fun.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
